Sleepy Hollow State Park to Imlay City Mi 78 miles

Woke up in the night to the sound of rain, so was surprised tent was dry when I got up.  It takes me about an hour to 1hr and 15 minutes to get ready every morning.  First get up to do personal hygiene, get dressed. Then I go back to the tent to roll up sleeping bag, pillow, pjs,  and clock into plastic bag.  then roll up the therma rest.  Put all this in gear bag, then take down and pack up the tent, put it into gear bag and carry gear bag to the truck. Once gear bag taken care of I look at my bike, check tires and put air in them.  Then I get my camelback(water bag) and water bottle filled with water. Once my gear bag and bike taken care of I go to check to see if we can make our lunches and if breakfast is ready.  Often it is ready early and we can pack our lunch and eat breakfast before the time told the night before.
So both Jan Quist and I were ready to leave at 645AM.  It was a cool 60 overcast sky.  We enjoyed the ride for the most part and we were making really good time.  We saw a neat little covered bridge for a photo op.
We had decided we would stop along the way at some point for coffee, but thought it best to be on the other side of Flint.  At our Peleton meeting the night before we had been warned not to ride alone through Flint as the crime rate in Flint is very high.  When we got to the outskirts of Flint we ask a group of men cyclists if we could ride with them through Flint.  They were kind enough to slow down a little for Jan and I and we rode with Len Kooy, Harold Veldmen, Peter Wong, and John Dolence.  thanks guys for your escort through Flint. It made Jan and I feel safer.
After Flint it started to spit again so Jan and I started looking for a nice little spot to have coffee.  We finally found one in Davidson and went off the route about half mile on Main St to ''Bear Soup Deli and had a delicious cup of hot tequila black bean soup and coffee. It hit the spot on a rainy day.  After we finished it was raining harder so we both donned our rain jackets and head out to finish the last 25 miles into camp.
I was doing fine until the last 10 miles when my Achilles tendon started to really give me trouble and it did not matter if I pointed my toes down or heel down, it hurt. So we slowed down and Jan pulled me into camp.  When I got to camp I heard several other people were also having difficulty with their Achilles tendon - Rudy Folkerts and Amanda Hulstein.  I hope I can ride tomorrow, but I will have to monitor how it feels as I do not want to do permanent injury to it.
We are staying at Imlay City High School where we can sleep inside and there is WiFi.  Considering it might rain tonight, I have opted to sleep inside rather than set up a tent.
Lots of people are tired and many are taking naps.  Here is Jane Brouwer taking a nap sitting in her chair.
Tonight we will be treated to an ice cream social by the members of the Christian Reformed church here in town.
Tomorrow we will crossing over by ferry into Canada and are looking forward to a very warm welcome in Sombra from our Canadian friends and family.
