August 12th Ancaster to Ajax 76

Today is my oldest son Jonathan's44th birthday. He is a blessing, a great son, father and preacher. Love him dearly.

Started out biking in cool temps and under sunny skies with Jan Quist.  It was a very enjoyable ride all day going through some of the most populated areas of Canada.  We biked on bike trials and nice roads for almost the whole way except for a short distance in downtown Toronto where there was construction and the bike path had a detour.

I was biking behind Rudy Folkert for a short distance

Along the route we had great views of the cities of Hamilton and Toronto. We also had refreshment stops provided by Classis Toronto, Bethal CRC in Newmarket and from a mother of one of the cyclist on Lakeshore Rd near Oakville. Great treats and hospitality.

Thank you Newmarket for the great ice cream cone. Hit the spot at  that point

Jan and I stopped for coffee at a Tim Horton's.  Many people were looking at us as there were 5 cyclists there and they were wondering what we were doing. I handed out our business cards and received donations of 10, 5 and 5. Lots of people want to know what we are doing and why. People are amazed when we tell them we biked from California and going to NYC.  They can't believe that we would go that far.  Often they have a look of shock on their faces like " your kidding me, you aren't really doing it"  Then when they see our cards they say "wow" .  We have raised over 1.7 Million so far and would like to make 2 million yet. If you have not yet contributed, every dollar makes a difference of even one child.  Please donate today if you can.

We are camped at the Ajax Community Centre and enjoyed nice hot showers, a real joy and pleasure.
Crossroads church is serving ice cream, snow cones and water to us in camp. Thanks Crossroads. For several cyclists Ajax is home.  George VanderKuur, Joan Doonspleet and Alice Brink are enjoying having family visits and being home. All cyclists seem to have had a good day biking today and enjoyed the scenery and the roads.  We have been impressed with the roads in Canada as they seem to be much better than the roads in rural US. Not as many potholes, rough roads or roads pave with pea gravel as I call rough paved roads which makes us work as there is lots of resistance.

Biked 77 miles and averaged 14.6 today. Considering all the lights we thought we did well.
I will sign off now and may add further comments if needed
