Arrived in camp at 105 it was 90 degrees. Left this morning at 620 in 50 degrees with Barb. Today's ride was mostly flat about 45 miles then we have a gradual climb of 1800 feet over Poncho Summit. Once over the summit we had a fast 7 mile down hill. I hit 46.6 mph on the downhill. Some other cyclists 51 mph. For me the ride was good till about 45 miles when we started to climb. Barb went on up ahead as I knew it would take me longer going up the gradual hill ton the Summit. My body handles 60 miles rides the best. After 60 miles my feet, heads and butt start to complain. when I get to SAG stops I usually get some ice for my feet. I also stop every 10 miles after about 45 miles of riding just to get a break. these stops are very necessary to help to finish the ride every day. Cyclists also appreciate cold ice towels around their necks when it starts to get hot. The SAG people are such an important part of the tour and all the cyclists really appreciate everyone of them. They are life savers for us.,
We rode through the San Luis valley pretty much all day. There was lots of irrigation and it looked like they were growing potatoes and Quinoa in the area. As we moved up the valley we noticed more pastures and ranches. It was a beautiful ride.
I am sitting in MacDonald's in Salada 3 miles down the road from Poncha Springs and am hoping to upload this post without difficulty. Please continue to pray for our safety but also for the poor in your community as well.
